A Conference for library marketers
The Library Marketing and Communications Conference (LMCC) is an annual event that is the only one of its kind designed specifically for library marketing and communications. Each year’s conference includes two full days of content with two empowering keynotes, approximately 30 innovative concurrent sessions from knowledgeable speakers, and numerous opportunities to network, commiserate, teach, and learn.
LMCC is designed by and for library employees of any level who are involved in marketing, communication, public relations, social media, and outreach in academic, public, and special libraries.
Library professionals leave the conference feeling heard and seen, and they are given tools they can use to strengthen support for marketing and communications in their organizations. Post-conference surveys show that attendees value LMCC’s opportunity to share ideas, build community, and network with others in their field, all tangible benefits that are not available at other library conferences.
LMCC is also fun. It’s a place where attendees get to know each other through dine-arounds at local restaurants, become inspired by picking up marketing materials from other libraries in the Swag Swap, and make new professional contacts and friends between sessions. LMCC is your library marketing community!
LMCC history
The first LMCC was held in 2015 in Dallas, TX, with nearly 200 attendees. Since then, LMCC has grown to reach more library marketing professionals from all over the United States and other countries. Around 450 people now attend the annual conference to learn about marketing and communications best practices from their peers and come away with new ideas and energy to grow marketing at their libraries.
2024 marks the Library Marketing and Communications Conference’s 10th anniversary. It will be held Nov. 13 and 14 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Library Marketing Conference Group
The Library Marketing Conference Group (LMCG) is a 501(3)c nonprofit that was created in 2017 to manage and oversee the Library Marketing and Communications Conference. Upon its creation, LMCG’s purpose was to advance, promote, and support the knowledge and understanding of marketing and communications among library professionals, library staff, and those who work in or with all types of libraries and information centers.
LMCG believes that if more library employees improved these skills, all libraries would be better positioned to have their messages heard and services well-used and appreciated. Since 2021, LMCG has also funded scholarships for deserving new and under-funded library marketers to attend the annual conference.
The LMCG Board currently consists of eight volunteers who plan the annual Library Marketing and Communications Conference and other professional development opportunities for library marketers throughout the year. These opportunities include continuing education webinars, an online conference in May 2024, and more to come. The group also manages an active social media presence, email list, and active network of library marketers. The success of the Board and LMCC relies on the support of our association management partners, Amigos Library Services.
